The Explanation

The controversial rumors about Rebuild 710- Checks and Balances being "defectors" who have gone rouge and looking to upset an election by creating voter confusion is misleading, at best.

Our motivation for running is quite the contrary. {The Rebuild 710} – Checks & Balances Slate is simply a revert back to our movement’s founding principles of “Checking” leaders (current as well as potential) and “Balancing” the voices that ascend to positions of power.

Long story short, after 7 years of working and campaigning together, we chose a separate course from practices that became disingenuous to the conversations we had with rank and file members regarding the character, integrity, ideas and intentions of some of the Rebuild 710 Slate candidates.
The UPS part-time and marginalized member voice was only ever discussed, in earnest by a very select few on that slate and we have refused to promote and participate in members being manipulated by deceptive candidates merely for vote collecting.
Prior to separation, corrective actions were discussed ad nauseam on wanting a more integral path forward, to no avail. Ultimately we separated on principle and teamed up with like- minded members who believe integrity should not be sacrificed for a political win.
The “Rebuild” name was an honorable rank and file movement that many of us sacrificed years of hard work and sleepless nights to create and after recent problematic additions and unchecked behaviors, it was time to move in a different direction.
As far as the name goes, we filed our slate declaration a solid week before they did and when they filed under the exact same name, we amended ours so that our supporters were able to differentiate.
They could have given themselves a more appropriate name such as the “Gary Friego” slate. Plain and simple.

Why A Partial Slate ?

After years of engagement, talking with and campaigning to our membership, we found that some of what our local has been doing resonates as satisfactory in certain industries and barns. As with anything else, there are always areas and room for improvement.

Our union, as a whole, is strong and our membership is passionate, sometimes to the point of impermanent division.

We don’t believe that every election needs to consist of turning our local completely on it’s head in order for change or improvements to appear tangible. One vision doesn’t need to wipe out another in order to participate in the conversation.

Each slate espouses the views of particular members and the issues most prevalent to them and as is true with the other slates, we resonate with only a fraction of our local even though we want to see all members represented to the best of our ability.

By electing Rebuild 710-Checks and Balances Slate, room is left open for candidates from both of the other slates to be elected in representational and leadership positions. This brings all of the visions together, unified at the table for conversations in determining solutions in the strongest and most inclusive setting we’ve ever seen in our local.
